Dancing, PPP, and Paul Simon
A new club/bar opened up in Hamilton this past weekend, and Garret, one of my close friends, came out from Toronto to DJ.
Esther and I got a sitter and we were poised & ready to hear some great music and maybe shake a leg out on the dancefloor.
We descended the stairs under the glow of a neon pink sign - SOUS BAS - the name of the spot.
The place has a great feel, and lots of attention has been paid to small design details, from the stainless steel fridges behind the bar, to the wall paper and funky erotic pictures in the bathrooms.
Garret and his DJ crew spun unreal sets, and once Esther leaned over on the dance floor and said, "just dance like we're in our living room," I lay my inhibitions aside, and my awkward jumping dance style was set free. It was a good decision, and the music kept me excited. Lots of classics got spun, but what brought me out to the dance floor was this:
This track came out in the early 2000s, and I had forgotten about it. But this cover of one of my favourite Paul Simon songs sounds fresh today. Who were the Platinum Pied Pipers? Well they're from the D (Detroit) and they were contemporaries of the late, great Jay Dee/Dilla - need I say more?
